Is a used 2nd or 3rd-gen Colt an option?

This is what I inherited from my dad. Haven't had a chance to even shoot it yet
.357 mag long barrel

Man, cartridges are overrated. Black powder is the way to go. I love my 1851 Navy.

Well, maybe. Uberti is just great for the price, and the Colts would options-limit me a tad.

My dad has a Python in .357, but I kind of like the cowboy style frame.

Where those are concerned, I do like an open top frame. Uberti has some killer ones of those as well.

I have one of those...
Except mine is a DA/SA with a 7 round cylinder.

to be honest, I don't know much about it. I've shot it only a handful of times, its at my parents because of my wifes stance on guns in the house...not worth the drama.

U.S. FireArms also has or had an absolutely killer SAA, but I haven't checked them lately.

I feel like buying an Italian reproduction of a classic american firearm is just plain wrong.

There is something to be said about a perl grip Single action.... So classy.

Yes. Yes you should. I have an older H&R .22 SA. Stupid fun and cheap to shoot.

I'm partial to the Chiappa Rhino, SA/DA, plus the barrel location reduces muzzle jump allowing for a more accurate follow up shot.

Well, Uberti are the bunch that made firing props for every spaghetti western ever, pretty much. They take that shit seriously.

I do like the Rhino, but that'd be further down the road, after I get an SAA, something to carry, a 1911, a Marlin 1894C and several other long-term targets.
Probably need to con a friend into getting a Judge, because while those are massive lulz, I don't know that I need to own one myself.

Mine is a Pietta, mainly because they are a good bit cheaper than Uberti and don't seem to be that much worse.

Mine is a 686 Plus. Eventually I'll get the Hornady folks to send me some .357 flat points for shenanigans. (I have a progressive ammo press, so at least when the economy goes kablooey, I have something to trade for food).

I would say no. Get a double action. Unless you want to do Cowboy Action Shooting (so cool). I picked up a used Colt King Cobra .357 Mag 6" barrel for cheap cheap cheap before the gun market got crazy. Some of the nicest action I've ever had the pleasure to shoot.

Since Smiths have gotten crazy stupid dumb expensive, I usually go with Ruger for revolvers. Take a look at the Blackhawk if you're looking for cowboy style. I have a nickel/cherrywood .44 and a blued/oak .357. Both wonderful guns.
Haven't bought one in a while, so I'm not sure what they run. But even if it's a little more, I'll pay it to know that the gun's going to last longer than I am.

Have one as well. Fun to shoot. The one time I forgot to bring Vaseline to cover the other loaded chambers, sure as shit I had two go off at the same time.

Naw, the walnut IMO.

I'm not a huge fan of DA trigger pull in most cases, and I intend to be an ammo miser. That, and I want a cowboy combo (Marlin + revolver) firing soft bullets, particularly if I'm casting them myself. All that together says to me Single Action Army. Yes, I know the Marlins weren't available in 45LC back in the day, but it's a very sweet combination:

Get over yourself. You can usually cock the hammer yourself. I believe you've shot my S&W 686P...

But, if it's there I feel like I'm supposed to use it. Also, ejector rods are cool, cranes less so.
